Light speckles when switching left brain off

into the realm of light, and frequency of existence when switching my left brain off when getting out of the day on a normal, early evening, early summer.....

Writing On Light: stealing from God: chance operation 7 x 7

Writing ON Light-- phase 1: Chance Operation:

Part of Stealing from God series--  2010, still photography video installation: Wen Wen Lin.

This is an experiment of Chance Operation--of writing ON light using camera lens as pen, and motion as brush, and light as ink. From 1 to 49, each frame corresponds to a number. How the photos turn out, the translation process from one form to the other, is completely left to chance..
When writing each number, the light responds to the way the camera-as-pen is moving, thus creating a hauntingly beautiful abstraction and stream of light captured in motion and movement, curved and turned all according to the way the number is shaped. Chance operation is derived from the work of John Cage, who was deeply indebted to Zen Buddhism in Japan during his time. Thus in this video, I implement John Cage's Music (Dream, 1948) for interpretation and enhancement of the dream-like quality of life through the ephemeral light  stream. Seven is the number of cycles prevalently found in many ancient cultures all across human civilization. According to Tibetan Buddhism's Tibetan Book of the Dead, when the soul leaves the body it goes on its ordeal for 49 days, confronted with the toughest of tests, likened to what Buddha went through under the Bo Tree. During this cycle the souls finds another pair of parents for rebirth, if it does not go astray and get devoured by fears. The numbers 7 (7 x 7), and 49 are two numbers that I am captivated by in delving deeper into my exploration of chance operation, and the relationship of the creator and the created, the artist and the art work.
